A Data-Driven Foundation for Remediation
Every successful groundwater treatment project begins with a high-resolution Conceptual Site Model (CSM). Using our Remedial Design Characterization (RDC) process, we integrate historical site data with new soil and groundwater sampling, geophysical surveys, and aquifer testing. This approach produces a detailed understanding of contaminant distribution, hydrogeologic variability, and transport pathways—critical for designing precise treatment strategies that save time and reduce costs.
In-Situ Groundwater Remediation Expertise
Our in-situ treatment capabilities cover a full spectrum of contaminant types and site conditions:
- Heavy Metals – Including hexavalent chromium, arsenic, lead, cadmium, copper, nickel, and others. We deploy FerroBlack® reagents for groundwater treatment, capable of addressing single or mixed-metal plumes with immediate reactivity and no curing time.
- Chlorinated Solvents & Petroleum Hydrocarbons – Targeted amendment emplacement to degrade, immobilize, or transform contaminants in situ.
- Mixed Contaminant Plumes – Simultaneous treatment of co-mingled organic and inorganic contaminants using tailored reagent blends.
- Emerging Contaminants (PFAS) – Site-specific pilot testing and design to contain or remove persistent compounds. (Read about AST’s PFAS Remediation services.)
Innovative Delivery Methods for Maximum Contact
AST’s in-situ slurry injection methodology is a cost-efficient alternative to pump-and-treat systems, repeated sequential injections, or large-scale excavation. Our tooling and procedures are designed to ensure uniform reagent distribution across variable lithologies and depths, including:
- Source zone treatments to remove or immobilize contaminant mass at its origin
- Permeable Reactive Barriers (PRBs) to protect property boundaries, intercept plumes, or safeguard sensitive receptors
- Surgical emplacement targeting discrete transmissive and storage zones identified during the RDC phase
During installation, injection parameters are recorded and combined with field QC protocols to verify optimal reagent placement for rapid contaminant reduction.
Bench-Scale & Pilot Testing
AST partners with reagent manufacturers and clients to confirm product selection, application method, and dosage rates through no-cost bench-scale testing and on-site pilot studies when appropriate. This ensures each treatment design is backed by real-world data before full-scale implementation.
Results That Close Sites
Since 1993, AST has successfully completed groundwater treatment projects under CERCLA, state superfund programs, brownfields redevelopment, landfill compliance, and private industrial cleanups. Our clients trust us to deliver first-time-right installations that meet cleanup goals, protect receptors, and accelerate site closure.
